EMDR was discovered and
developed by the American psychologist Dr Francine Shapiro in the 1980s. EMDR is now
a well reserched and established psychological therapy and has been recognised
internationally as an effective treatment for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
including the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE 2005) in the
UK and more recently by the World Health Organisation (WHO 2013).
Although well known as a treatment for PTSD, EMDR is also an effective treatment for many other psychological disorders and complaints.
